Calicura's Outfitting is the only outfitter licensed and permitted by the Bureau of Land Management to provide horseback tours of the Wild Horse Surround, designated wild horse range.
All horseback tours are guided and mules accompany us to carry the necessary provisions.
Indian artifacts are commonly seen. Feel free to take pictures only, no artifacts can be removed.
SCENIC GUIDED HORSEBACK TOURS
The photographic opportunities and peacefulness of the Douglas Mountain and Browns Park areas of Northwest Colorado will amaze and captivate your senses. Your sight, smell, and mind will forever remember and want to return again and again. The wildlife in the area generally cooperate by making appearances for photographs. This area is known for its trophy elk as well as deer, black bear, wild turkey, bobcats, fox, coyotes, and the occasional wolf. Many enjoy the bird watching opportunities present here with too many bird species to list including bald and golden eagles.
The untouched beauty of the area is beyond description. Bring your camera and journal and prepare to relax and enjoy!
WILD HORSE AND GUIDED PHOTOGRAPHIC TOURS
The Sandwash Basin in Moffat County is home to one of the best herds of wild horses. Protected and managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the wild horses represent a part of our heritage that is still a living, breathing beauty on foot! To watch these magnificent animals run free throughout the basin makes you feel, if only for that moment, the freedom that they live.
You will see a wide range of both color and age in the different brands that roam the basin. Each will usually allow for multiple photographs.
